Indiana (02) House 2010

Crystal Ball Outlook: Leans D

Democratic candidate: Joe Donnelly, Incumbent

Republican candidate: Jackie Walorski, State Representative

Recent updates from the Crystal Ball

Indiana's 2nd Congressional District had been represented by a Republican since 1995 until Joe Donnelly unseated incumbent Chris Chocola in the 2006 election. Chocola had gained a victory over Donnelly in the 2004 election, but was unable to fend him off a second time.

Donnelly has made a habit of asserting his independence from the Democratic Party platform and health care is no exception. Donnelly supports expansion of health care coverage, but he is currently poised to vote against the current health care legislation due to the ambiguous language regarding abortion.

The Republican primary has four contenders, but Jackie Walorski stands out as the current front-runner. Walorski announced her intention to in November and has worked since them to establish a distinct fundraising advantage. Walorski has served as a State Representative for Indiana since her victory in 2004 and is likely to face Donnelly following the May 4 primary. The other Republican challengers are Martin Dolan, Jack Jordan and Anthony Zirkle.

The 2nd District of Indiana Leans Democratic.
